Hello all, so I just joined this tribe, but like so many of you I have been a huge fan of Loreena's forever, and I had the great fortune to see her on her north american tour in Boston and in Providence, and she is beyond words. In any case, I get her Quinlan Road newsletter and I thought it very interesting that Loreena not only wrote and performed the theme song for the upcoming Disney DVD release Tinkerbell, but she also narrates the story. Just thought Loreena fans would be interested. Here is the link

From Quinlan Road:

Nights from the Alhambra
makes its PBS television debut March 3

Nights from the Alhambra is your opportunity to share an enchanting musical performance, set beneath the stars in the breathtaking Moorish heart of medieval Spain. Captured live in September 2006 in her first in-concert television special, Loreena leads viewers through the multi-textured landscapes of her catalogue, from traditional Celtic ballads to literary narratives and highlights from her latest recording, An Ancient Muse.

Filmed in rich HDTV, Loreena McKennitt: Nights from the Alhambra evokes the otherworldly magic of Granada's palace of dreams, the fiery and inspired performances of a stellar cast of supporting musicians and, of course, the unforgettable voice and songs of Loreena McKennitt herself.

The PBS Great Performances special Loreena McKennitt: Nights from the Alhambra will be broadcast on PBS beginning March 3. Visit our Explore The Music pages at the official Loreena McKennitt/Quinlan Road website to learn more about Nights from the Alhambra, view clips from the performance, learn more about its beautiful historic setting, and view our regularly-updated PBS Broadcast Schedule for broadcast details relevant to you.

A Loreena McKennitt: Nights from the Alhambra single-disc DVD will be offered as an exclusive pledge premium to PBS supporters from March 2007. Loreena McKennitt and Quinlan Road encourage PBS viewers to support public broadcasting via this pledge programme.

If there are other fans going to this show, I wondered if perhaps we could meet up? I'd love to meet fellow Loreenites! :)

I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed. I had really hoped her travels would have leant more Middle Eastern/Mediterranean influence to her work. Not that it's not good, but it' just more of the same (still good to hear some new stuff though!). Also it's a bit short on songs...only 9 tracks. I hope she puts out another one in a couple of years now that she's managed to get ack in the studio.

The View from the Swans in the Pond

This is a current update from Loreena in her own words regarding the work on her forthcoming album. The article is beautifully written and, from what she has revealed, the recording sounds like it is going to be another incredible gift from the Muse personified.

New Recording Forthcoming

According to her website, Loreena McKennitt has been working on some new material. Recently, she was at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios where she recorded three new songs. No news of an album release date, but the fact that she is working is music to my ears.

Much like Dead can Dance breaking up, the loss of Loreena to the music scene broke my heart. LUCKILY, Dead can Dance is coming back and playing in Oakland in Sept.....I hope that Loreena comes back to us. The world could sure use her about now. Every since the death of her fiance, she has been on a hi-eightus, for an unknown amount of time.

Sad.

Similar artists?

Hi All,

As new works are not imminently forthcoming from LM I thought I'd throw out this question in the interests of broadened horizons and all that....

Has anyone got any recommendations for other artists producing similar works?

To get the ball rolling I could suggest Candice Night (also canadian) Ocean Gypsy and Hanging Tree are particularly good from Under a Violet Moon.

Six degrees of separation?

Appropriate for Tribe I thought. Can each of us get to Loreena McKennitt through six degrees? I think I can in three -- my second album was mixed by sitar player Ashwin Batish, who told me that Loreena is a big fan of his music, and that her assistants call him up regularly to see if he has released anything new so they can buy it for her. So Ashwin, her assistant, then LM. :)

First time with Loreena?

When was the first time you heard her music? For me, it was a visit to A Bustle In Your Hedgerow, a tiny metaphysical shop in San Mateo, CA. The proprietor had "The Visit" on the PA system. :)

I love Loreena McKennitt's music. I was turned on to her by a friend a few years ago. I bellydance and her song "Marco Polo" was the first solo I ever performed.

I would also like Dante's Prayer played at my funeral. I think it's a gorgeous song.

I think she is working on a new album now.
